Albumay!

I typically stream from my computer to a Marshall bluetooth speaker or my stereo. Definitely doesn't sound as good as the physical copies, but it's good enough for streaming while I work.

I'm thinking about how many times my xmas or birthday wishlist had "cd changer" or "boombox with cd player" or "cd walkman" on it when I was a kid. And now we're lucky to find anything that plays physical media. About two years ago, I replaced my car's cd player with an "airplay compatible" head unit! EDIT: This is not meant to imply that I'd been listening to CD's until 2 years ago. The car is a 2013 and the only thing that had ever been in the CD slot in the last 10 years is one of those phone mounts.

I'm using Apple Music (rip iTunes) because Apple puts your DRM-free mp3's in the cloud. So I guess I'm still streaming them. And then I'm connected to an Airplay or Bluetooth speaker, or my car stereo.

I'm very late to the party but absolutely LOVE this idea. Granted, listening to full albums, no skips already makes up the majority of my music-listening. I can't commit to "locked in mode," however, because (1) I don't have a good method for listening to music that I own right now* and (2) I participate in the game Music League, where a group of friends submit songs for themed playlists, then listen through the playlists and vote for their favorite songs.

I've got a lengthy list of 2026 albums to catch up on, so that'll likely make up the bulk of my Albumay entries.

*In case you're curious: One of our cars has a CD player, but I rarely drive it because the A/C is broken; my laptop which contained my full digital collection + ripped CDs is broken without a back-up; nearly all of my CDs are currently in storage; and I need to purchase a good new mp3 player to start using besides my phone.

Curious how you are listening to each. Always the same medium or platform?

Love that, thanks.

Trying to vary it, as of right now that's 3 vinyl records and 1 purchased WAV play. My cassette player is so awesomely warbly that it makes everything sound like it's run through a Chase Bliss pedal, so planning on listening to that as I usually do soon. I just need a CD player so I can break out my binder and properly relive the glory days.

I started researching modern CD players a few months ago but never committed to buying one. I should rectify that soon. Would love to start digging through my CD collection, especially reading through the liner notes and all!

Apparently google searches for "mp3 player" has tripled since the fall. Be interesting if that trend continues.

Would be curious if you end up getting one! I was looking a couple of years ago and it was hard to find much that was quality (and not outrageously expensive). But could see there possibly being more options now.
